Auspicious Wednesday

If you are planning any major life changes soon, you should schedule them for Wednesday, September 12. This is apparently a very auspicious day. People in Sri Lanka plan their weddings around these auspicious days and well, Wednesday, September 12 seems to be the best one of the entire year. I've been invited to three, yes three, weddings that day! The times of each wedding are very specific: 7:35 a.m., 10:10 a.m. and 1:37 p.m. I think they are all Tamil weddings.

So now I have to buy a sari. I've been instructed of this requirement. Apparently most people wear Indian saris for weddings because they are more beautiful. I'll let you know whether I go with an imported or locally made sari.

I'm calling it Wedding Wednesday. I think Sewalanka will have to close because the entire office has been invited to these weddings. It is going to be very expensive as I can't really ride my bike or take an overcrowded bus with a sari on, so I'll have to take a tuk or taxi (of course the weddings are not at the same place). I wonder what the wedding gift tradition is here.
